10 Guidelines to Get the Radiant Skin of Your Dreams

Monday, April 29, 2019

Do you dream of having healthy, radiant skin that you can show off to the world without an ounce of concealer? To some, this may sound like a fairy tale, but there are many ways that you can improve the appearance of your skin without spending a fortune. By following some important guidelines, you'll be on your way to clear and vibrant skin.

Use Products Right For You

There are a few basic products that everyone should add to their skincare routine. An Antioxidant, Sunscreen and Retin A (or Retinol if you are in your twenties).

Avoid Over-Scrubbing Your Face

Exfoliating is beneficial in moderation, removing dead skin cells to leave you with smooth skin. However, the use of abrasive cleansers shouldn't be a part of your daily skincare routine. Over-scrubbing can do more harm than good, leading to broken blood vessels, dryness, redness, and irritation. If you suspect that you've been over-scrubbing, immediately decrease how often you exfoliate.

Always Use a High SPF Sunscreen

When it comes to sunscreen, not all options are created equal, especially if your goal is to fight discoloration and loss of elasticity. Sunscreen of at least SPF 50 is recommended to fight the potential signs of sun damage, including age spots and premature wrinkles.

Address Your Acne Concerns

If you notice breakouts and acne, it is important to address your concerns with a dermatologist. What may begin as one simple blemish can quickly transform into a bigger skin issue. This is especially true for teens, and fighting acne at the first signs can prevent acne scarring, skin infections, and other long-term issues.

Avoid Refined Carbohydrates

There are many reasons to avoid refined carbohydrates, including those in white bread, potatoes, and white rice. What many people don't know is that the problems extend further than your waistline, as your skin may also be impacted. These foods cause inflammation which might affect the skin and lead to breakouts.

Upgrade Your Bedding

Upgrading your sheets from cotton to silk can do wonders on your skin. A silk pillowcase can help your skin to feel soft and look refreshed each morning. Considering that your face will press against these materials for eight hours per night, it is easy to see that upgrading to a better fabric can be an important change.

Consider Probiotics

Improving your gut health is a foundation for clear, healthy skin, and a daily probiotic can help. However, certain strains may be better for the skin than others. For example, the lactobacillus rhamnosus strain is often recommended for the relief of eczema, while acne sufferers may find lactobacillus acidophilus to be a better option.Do your research and consult with a doctor if you are interested in adding a probiotic to your health regimen.

Always Remove Your Makeup

After a long day at the office, it is tempting to just drop off to sleep without washing your face. The problem is that allowing grit, grime, dirt, and makeup to stay behind on the skin can cause some serious damage. Leaving this behind at night while the skin attempts to repair itself will weaken the skin barrier, leading to rapid aging. Plus, makeup wipes alone aren't enough to properly clean the skin, so make sure you follow through with your normal cleansing routine.

Add Healthy Fats into Your Diet

A diet rich in healthy fats is a great way to boost your complexion. Fish is an excellent addition to any diet, as salmon, mackerel, and sardines offer omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s offer anti-inflammatory properties and keep the lining of the cells moist. This can provide the skin with a clear, dewy appearance.

Take Steps to Repair Old Damage

While prevention is ideal, should your skin suffer from hyperpigmentation or sun damage, you should still try and fix the issue. When it comes to dermatological fixes, laser treatment is the top choice. However, medical grade creams can help to reduce pigmentation and spots.

You don't have to be unhappy with the appearance of your skin.
